Coolest Name in the NCAA Tournament

Scoop Jardine and Rakeem Christmas made it to the Elite Eight of ESPN’s Coolest Name in the NCAA Tournament contest. Just like the SU Basketball team, they were knocked out in the Elite Eight match up.

Jardine entered the Tournament as a number one seed in the Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje region, while Christmas was a number two seed in the God Shammgod region. Fab Melo rounded out the trio of Syracuse players with cool names as a number one seed in the Dallas Comegys region, but was ruled ineligible after missing out on the tournament.

Jardine and Christmas, like the SU basketball team, were just shy of advancing to the Final Four. Jardine racked up 49.4% of the vote, but lost to Bubu Palo (50.6%), a three seed from Iowa State. Christmas (47.9%) was in a tough match against Big East opponent and number one seed, Cashmere Wright of Cincinnati who garnered 52.1% of the 7,729 total votes.

Although the contest is just for fun and games, it’s ironic that both of the remaining Syracuse players got knocked out in the same round as the team.
